Currently on Dominant G D A
& Pirastro Gold Label E
on my Wilhelmj concert Violin.

Pirastro Gold E is the best I've used so far.
The sound is brilliant.
Dominant strings are warm,
but they tend to produce the metallic sounds at first.
Those sounds disappear after a week of playing.

Pirastro Tonica sounds warmer.
I'm using Tonica strings on the Prillante violin.
Prillante violin has been bright,
I'm using Tonica to tone it down a lil'.

Bright sounds will be necessary for some solo pieces though.

I tried Pirastro Obligato.
Really nice strings that sound different from Dominant.
A sound with some special quality to it.
Sensei heard me play on Obligato's & thought they sound like gut strings.

I have yet to try Pirastro Evah Pirazzi.
I have been told they sound really brilliant.
Suitable for pieces where bright sounds will be preferred.


Grade 8 exam.
I'm thinking of changing to Pirastro Oliv strings.
The whole set cost a 100+.
Well... the most premium gut strings.


At current I'm contented with my Dominant G-D-A Pirastro Gold E.


Pass a good violin player any lousy violin with lousy strings,
and he will still be able to produce quality music out of the fiddle.

If I have loads of $,
I will rather invest them on upgrading my skills.
